Last Orders

The feed has updated all good and proper (barring one small hiccup with the site's news post, which is fair enough as I gave it the wrong date), so I think I'm going to leave off regularly updating this community. For those that missed it - the new feed is specialschool_r (or http://specialschool.spiderforest.com/rss.php if you prefer to take it direct).

After a while I may delete this community, unless somebody wants to use it for actual discussion or fanfic or something. Though really that sort of thing should go on in the (near-dead) forum.

So, today's comic hasn't appeared on the LJ feed yet and it's two hours later than Friday[1]. Still, if you were subscribed to http://specialschool.spiderforest.com/rss.php you'd be home by now!

[1] The feed page says "Last checked: 2008-12-16 07:37:38 Next check: 2008-12-16 08:37:38". Somehow I do not believe this to be the case.

Yes, this second panel is specifically because somebody though he was an Ewok. I guess you have to see the legs.

specialschool_r hasn't picked up the new comic yet - I still don't know exactly when LJ's RSS scrape runs. We shall see.

EDIT: The comic has appeared on the RSS feed now! I guess that's only about four hours late.

The Future Does Not Involve You
We are experimenting with automation! There is a new Special School RSS feed available at http://specialschool.spiderforest.com/rss.php - syndicated to livejournal as specialschool_r (the 'R' is for 'RSS', curse these limited username fields).

I may see if I can monkey around with the format at some point, I'd rather have title/news/link than a direct image load (for one thing I think it looks better on the feed - well, LJ friends page at least - but the fact that reading through the RSS will effectively remove you from my reader stats is not incidental). People should try it out and let me know how it sits, I will continue to update here for the time being.

Ethan was named way back in #32. Shortpacked! had been running for about seven months at that point, so it's possible he was named in honour of the character they have over there.

His hair is darker than the last time you saw him because he's been in the water, duh.

Continuing a theme from earlier. Much, much earlier.

This scene will involve lots of jumping around; it's not just a mechanism to pad things out, it's because there are so many characters in one place. I promise.

Get on with it

Do you think this scene should have been cut? We were so worried when the boys were writing it, but now we're glad! It's better than some of the previous scenes I think.

PS: I fixed Friday's sound effect, shhhh.

I was going for motion blur in that first panel; It always seemed to be too much or too little, and I'm not 100% on the results.

.... uhmmmm and it looks like I forgot to finish the sound effect there. Crap.

Oh well, that's what revisionist history is for...

Suddenly things got a lot more colourful!

Also harder to draw.

Such is life.

I'm kind of pleased with how this one ultimately came out. I was a little wary of the water effects (and it does still look a bit airbrushy) but I like the rich colours and the general feel. It could probably afford to be a bit more "Zap!" though.

Hopefully she won't turn out to be Poochie.

I'd probably settle for Jonas Quinn...
